How to Properly fold the American Flag

Many are knowledgeable that the American flag should be treated with the highest form of respect and recognition. Not allowing it to get soiled, dirty, stepped on the ground, and mutilated, only a few actually know how to properly fold it before keeping it. Here are some step by step instructions for all to know.

First, the edges should be laid out and stretched properly. Two people would be best to do this task in order to prevent wrinkling and folding in of edges during the folding process.

Second, the flag is folded halfway lengthwise or otherwise at the middle, parallel along the stripes. The lower stripes should be on top of the side with the stars. At this point, the flag should have the stripes facing topside up.

The next step is to further fold the flag lengthwise, this time letting the underside where the stars and blue side go on top.

At the striped end of the lengthwise folded flag, begin folding with the open edge side go diagonally to the other side, resting along the length of the flag, and forming a triangle. As a rule of thumb, it should go from right to left. Repeat this process until the whole length of the flag is almost totally consumed, with the blue part facing up this time.

With the smallest strip of extra cloth after the triangular folds, use it to tuck the flag into a tight bundle Properly done, the American flag is then preserved of its pride and durability, allowing it to be stashed safely or kept for future purposes.
